Show Dies in Service . . . .:t r rsr " i - I s j Uet De Vou Petty Further word was received on the death of Ilet De Vou Petty, saying that he was accidentally killed on January 31,1944, when a mortar shell exploded on one of the firing ranges. The scene of the accident was Oro Bay, New Guinea. Chaplain's Office, Eighth Cavalry, A. P. O. 201, 3 February, 1944 Mr. Elmer Herbert Petty, Delta, Utah. Dear. Mr. Petty: Accept my sincere sympathy in the death of your son Pvt. Ilet D. Petty, 399912253, Service Troop, 8th Cavalry. I know that the news cf his death came as a shock to you, as it did to us. The funeral was impressive. I was assisted in the service by the Division Chaplain and another Regimental Reg-imental Chaplain. Six of his comrades com-rades in arms were pallbearers and eight others formed a firing squad to fire volleys over his grave. His grave, in the American cemetery, is marked with a white cross, bearing bear-ing his name, rank, and serial number. num-ber. At a time like this we realize the value of our faith.
