Show Open House Marks 60th Wedding Anniversary Not common is a 60th wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Western of Deseret are among those fortunate few who eelebrate such an ocoasion. They will hold open house Sunday afternoon to mark their 60 years of married life. They were married in 1892 at Deseret, and have made their home there since their wedding day. In 1893 they received their endownment in the Manti temple. Mr. Western was born March 13, 1869, at Spring Valley, Lincolon county, Nevada, a son o'S Samuel Winsbrough and Sarah Ann Wood Western, early pioneers. He came to Deseret as a boy in" 1877. His wife, Mrs. Musetta Palmer Western, was born Aug. 31, 1874, at Rockville, Washington county, Utah, a daughter of David Maroni and Lucinda Ann Ayers Palmer. She, too, is of pioneer stock, and came to Deseret with her family when she was 5 years old. Both have lived full and active lives during their many years. They are active members in the LDS church, and have served in many organizations. Mr. Western was in theDeseret ward bishopric for 20 years, and in the Sunday school superintend- ency lor iu years. He nas servea as a ward teacher, and holds the office of high priest. He has been a blacksmith, (freighter (frei-ghter and farmer. For many years he freighted between Fish Springs and Oasis. As a young man he helped haul rock and cedars to put in ,the old dam at Deseret, and later he helped on the construction at Yuba Dam. In addition to keeping her home and raising a family, Mrs. Western Wes-tern has filled offices in the ward She was a member of the Relief Society presidency for 15 years, and served 20 years in the Primary Prim-ary presidency. She was MIA president pres-ident for two years, and was a Relle'l Society teacher for 40 years. She was captain for 2 years for Fannie Powell Cropper DUP Camp. The. couple are the parents of thirteen children, of whom the nine surviving are Mrs. Thomas B. (LaVern) Allred, Deseret, Mrs. Harold R. (Belva) Morris, Hinckley, Mrs. A. R. (Inez) Damron. Deseret, Mrs. Pat (Edna) Patterson, Portland, Port-land, Oregon, Faun Western, Deseret, Des-eret, Mrs. Vernon (Bertha) Love, Hinckley, Leslie Western, Deseret, Mrs. Cluff (Ruth) Talbot, Hinckley, Hin-ckley, and Mrs. Elwin (Grayce) Pace, Delta. They have 35 grandchildren, grand-children, and 23 living greatgrand children. All the children, except Mrs. Patterson, in Oregon, will be at home with their parents to join in the observance of the anniversary. |
