Watkins (R) Utah, Immediate release- Washington- Special Legislation which will permit Utah to complete construction on 47 miles of U. S. Highway Six in west-central west-central Utah as initiated by Senator Watkins (R-Utah) was approved ap-proved Tuesday by the Senate. The legislation was approved during dur-ing Senate consideration for the Federal Highway Bill for 1951. Senator Watkins, ranking minority member on the Senate Sub Committee on Roads of the Public Works Committee, amended amend-ed the bill in committee to authorize the construction program. This was approved on the floor of the Senate Tuesday. Senator Watkins and Senator McCarran sponsored a second amendment , on the floor of the Senate providing for contract authority of $2,-500,000 $2,-500,000 so that immediate construction work could be undertaken. under-taken. The bill already approved by the House now goes to a House-Senate conference committee where the disagreement between the measures passed by the two houses will be ironed out.
