Christensen Delta, Utah Say Farewell At Canyon Party A group of riends honored Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hortin at a fare-well party in Oak City canyon on Friday night, before their depart-ure this week for Panguitch, where they are making their new home. Steaks were fried and a picnic supper served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Hortin, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gard-ner, Mr. and Mrs. Ward Moody, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Moody, Mr. and Mrs.. Van Bishop, Mr and Mrs. June Black, Mr. and Brs. Virt Barn-ey, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. S. Bassett, and Mr. and Mrs Warren Henderson. SeSsaofl Friends Meet in Canyon While Mr. and Mrs. Rex Daly are visiting from Delta, from Maryland a group of their friends from sch-ool days both in Delta and at Col-lege met for a steak fry and picnic up Oak Creek Canyon. The party and the eve-enin- g was on Friday night was spent in visiting. The group included Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Schlappi, Mr. and Mrs. G. B. This week the Dalys made a trip to Cedar City and through Bryce and Zion canyons. They will leave Delta Saturday to return to Wash-ington, D. C. College students were guest speakers at the Sunday evening Sacrament service, Zoe Porter, Ru- -' Ion Jones and Kenneth Porter were speakers and Carmen Rose sang a solo. Following the services there were two Fireside chats held. The Special Interest group was held at the home of Ben Robison with Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Reed as speak-ers. Mr. and Mrs. Reed are resi-dents of Los Angeles but spend time often up here visiting at the home of their daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Peterson. The other group met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ekins for their Fireside chat. The MIA is asking each ward to sponsor a home evening Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Foote re-ceived word on Saturday of the death of Mrs. Mary lies of Michi-gan. Mrs. lies was long a resident of Sutherland, having lived here and cared for the family of John Foote. Mr. Foote was unable to make plane reservations in order to be present at the funeral ser-vices. Mrs. Addie Hall and children of Cedar City, Mr. and Mrs. Mpnt Epperson of Salt Lake City are recent visitors at the Thornton home. Miss Flora May was a visitor over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Jensen spent their vacation over the weeeknd at Puffer Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Walker vaca-tioned at Panguitch Lake over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. June Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Church spent a few days at Fish Lake. Primary will be held on Wednes- - The game lasted the longer. Mr. and Mrs. Reed Tippetts have recently enjoyed a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Hamblin of Seattle, Wash. While here they took a trip to Bryce canyon. Mr. Hamblin returned to Salt Lake City on Monday; Mrs. Hamblin, who is a sister of Mrs. Tippetts will extend her visit for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. McNiel of Needles, Cal., visited at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Abbott last Thurs-day. The McNeils are recent con-verts to the LDS church. Last week I was latei with the news but still of interest is Nels Brumley and son, Joe, are at Caliente, Nev., where they have employment. Mrs. Madge Christensen enjoyed a visit of her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Powell of Amarilla, Tex. Avon Barney returned home from Salt Lake City where he had been for medical treatment. The report by the Boy Scouts, Howard Johnson and Lyman Hen rie, who had attended the Valley Forge Jamboree, was most inter-esting the Sunday evening of July 16. Other parts on the program were a duet by Mary Henrie and her daughters, Ann, Virginia and Kay; piano selections by Geneal Johnson. Early this week Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jensen will drive to Mt. Pleasant and take the grandmoth-er Jensen home. She had been vis-iting here for several weeks. The Jolly Stitchers will have a program at its next meeting of an early date, presenting bits of history. Anyone intersted is invited to attend.. Special invitations will go out to Mrs. G. D. Shipley of Oak City, and Mrs. Leona Church, charter members. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Sanford and family enjoyed a monutain view drive through Sanpete county on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Porter have moved into their home on the south and west at Sutherland. Mr. and Mrs. Ferrel K. Walker and family are spending a vaca-tion in Salt Lake City and Logan, over the weekend. Mrs. Johnson of Salt Lake City is visiting in Sutherland. Later this week she and Mr. and Mrs. Amon Johnson will leave for Idaho where they will attend a Fullmer family reunion. Mr. and Mrs. Don Johnson spent ' ( a few days in Vernal on a fishing trip. Deseret LUCILLE SAMPSON Wednesday July 19, the officers of the Deseret Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Beth Anderson at Hinckley with the officers of of the other garden clubs of West Millard to receive instructions on the flower show for the fair on August 11 and 12 at Deseert. The Deseret Garden Club met at the home of Mrs. Mary Ander-son Thursday, July 20. The instruc-tions the officers received at Mrs. Beth Anderson's were passed on to the club and the culture of gladioli was given by the club president, Mrs. Rutfi Dewsnup. Hostesses were Mrs. Faye Davis and Mrs. Mary Anderson. Refresh-ments were served. On Friday, July 28, instructions on flower arrangement will be given by Mrs. Beth Anderson of Hinckley, at the home of Mrs. Blanch Jensen. Everyone interested is invited to attend. Sheldon, Anna May and Jay Ekins, children of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ekins, spent the weekend with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dewsnup. Mr. and Mrs. Loren Rowley and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Bunker spent the weekend at Hen-ry Creek, Nevada. Carl Webb, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer" Webb, fell from his bike Tuesday evening and broke both bones in his right arm just about the wrist. He was taken to the Delta hospital where Dr. Bird re-set his arm. Oasis Mrs La Veda Bishop Mr. and Mrs. Ed Christensen and Mr. and Mrs. Norvel Christen-sen and Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bishop of Oasis attended the funeral ser-vices for Wilford Brunson in Fill-more Tuesday. The boys who attended the camporee at Navajo lake last week were Melvin and Grant Memmott, Keith Stanworth.Jerold Bishop and Voy Stewart. They report that in spite of the poor fishing they had a good time. On July 12 Mrs. Reginia Hawley celebrated her 87th birthday. Her daughters, Reva Dunn and Telia Strang and Norma Jene and Law-rence Strang from Salt Lake were here for the occasion. A family dinner was served and the special feature was a large birthday cake. Other members of the family pres-ent were Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Haw-ley and Mr. and Mrs. Fon Hawley. Mrs. Zona Hawley, Mrs. Stella Hawley and Marlene Carling were Salt Lake City visitors from Wed-nesday until Saturday. Mrs. Nina Huff from Booneville. California, is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Zone Hawley. Mr. and Mrs. Armond Hawley from Provo spent the 24th with their mother, Mrs. Zona Hawley. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bishop and son, Carlos, of Hinckley, and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Lovell of Delta, at-tended the Bishop reunion in Salt Lake City Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Robinson of Cropper Lane, left Tuesday for a trip through the northwest with Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Robinson of Hinckley. Ray Gardner spent the week end in Preston, Idaho, and attended the wedding reception of a mission ary companion. Mrs. Carol Schlap-pi and two sons made the trip with him and visited over the 24th at Brigham City with her sis-ter. |
