Fob. 23. 19S0 Plastics Class Opens Friday A class in plastics opens Friday at 4 p. m. in the Delta high school art department, i.or instruction to those interested in the subject. Bryce Memmott will be instructor. The course will run 10 week for a fee of 2.50 to each enrolled . JOLLY STITCHERS WILL MEET FRIDAY IN DELTA The Jolly Stitchers will meet Fri-day, Feb. 24 at 2:30 p.m. The meet ing will be at the home of Mrs. lone Dalley in Delta, with Mrs. Dalley and Iva Mitchell as the hostesses. Oak City M. I. A. Is Entertained Tuesday evening after short clas ses a picture show was held, the film, "Temple Square" was shown. After the show a comedy play was given. It was in three parts and called 'Mail Order Wife". Verl Jacobson directed and planned this play.. Ivan Shipley was a scream as a mail order wife. Gayle Nielson, a 'bashful man with two wives on hand to marry him, with the able help of Christian Ander-son. Rebecca Pratt, Clara Nielson, Elwood Lovell, all ended with a good laugh and everyone happy. Piano solos by Afton Roper and accordion solo by Sandra Finlin-so- n made full evening's entertain-ment. Family Gathers For ESirthday Sixty family members and five generations gathered for the par-ty Wednesday night, Feb. 15, in Springville that honored Mrs. Jade A. May on her 91st birthday. Nine of Mrs. May's ten living children were there, and some of her 79 grandchildren, 120 great - grand children and 3 great - great - gr-andchildren. The party was held at the home of a granddaughter, 'Mrs. Cloyd Dalton. Attending from Delta were other grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Tippetts, Mr. and Mrs. Heber Tippetts and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wind. Mrs. May has been 'in Hurri-cane with her daughter, Mrs. I. H. Tippetts during the winter. She was with them in Delta last week as they came through on they way to the party. Mrs. Beryl Callister, Mrs. Leila Maxfield, and their mother, Mrs. M. M. Stapley, left Delta Tuesday for Cedar City, where they will Visit Mr. and Mrs. Elton Stapley and family. On Tuesday night they attended the high school opera, in which Elton's daughter, La Rae Stapley, had a leading role. their daughter, Verna Webb and her husband of Hinckley visiting. The Alldredge brothers killed 2 mororn ountain lions last week east of Oak City. They were killed in the vicinity of the one killed a short time ago. Miss Viola Talbot and Merton Lovell visited from Dixie college last week. Miss Edith Anderson is home for a few days. i - Oak City - Mae H. Shipley Sunday evening services held Sunday "evening had a very good attendance. The speakers were Mr and Mrs. Vern Young from Hunt-ington. Mrs. Young sang a beaut- - iful sold entitled Open-- The Gates Of Heaven. The services were in charge of Bishop Finlinson with counselor Ivan Shipley conducting. The LDS girls and the Aaronic Priesthood boys will have a ban-- i quet Friday evening. Mrs. E!len Lyman was an Oak City visitor last week from Bland-ir.;- ;. Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Anderson fid family from Salt Lake and Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Anderson from Provo visited in Oak City, Misses Verna Mae Shipley, Laur- - el Anderson and Avis Anderson from Salt Lake visited a few days in Oak City. A fireside chat held at the home of Julian Finlinson Sunday was very enjoyable. Elder Gordon Moo-- i dy talked and displayed money, clothes etc. from South America. Mrs. Merlin Roper spent several days visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Alldredge. Her mother is not well at present. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Nielson and children were here from Salt Lake. Elder Nephi Anderson returned home from his mission to be at his mother's bedside. Mrs. And- - erson passed away Saturday even-ing. Oak City is mourning the pas-sing of this young, esteemed and useful member of Oak City. Word was received of Mrs. Ann Jane Roper's death at Provo . Ser-vices will be at Oak City Wednes-day at 1:30 p.m. Mrs. Roper has resided most of her time in Oak City. She was much loved by her host of friends. Mrs. Amy Faust from Salt Lake also Mrs. Angie Lyman and Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Lyman are in Oak City visiting and to attend the funeral services this week. Mr. Jos. Dutson from Ririe, Ida., is in Oak City for funeral services. Mrs. Minnie Ashby visited in Oak City last week. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Roper receiv-ed word of another grand daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Thurman Roper at Powell, Wyo. Mrs. Mary Christensen from Aur-ora visited relatives here. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Alldredge had Mrs. Dudley Crafts and infant daughter, who have been in Salt Lake City since the baby's birth in December, returned to their home in Delta last Wednesday. Elaine George, attending the U SAC in Loran, spent the weekend in Delta with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen George. Select-ed. Mr. Ike Mortenson of Delta was a Provo visitor Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Stewart, Mr. and Mrs. Grayson Roper, Mr. Le-la- Roper and Nada Simpson were in Provo Friday as Mr. Roper's mo-ther, Ann Roper, had suffered an-other stroke. She has been living with her daughter, Mrs. Nell Wil-ki- e. She was taken to the Utah Valley Hospital Thursday where she is still quite ill. Mrs. Lydia Smith of Beaver is also in Provo while her mother is ill. She is staying with her son, Mr. Charley Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Durward Clark and children, Judy and Frankie of Salt Lake visited in Provo Tuesday, with Mr. and Mrs. Mel Majers. Harold Ivie who has had his ton-sils removed Friday was home Sat-urday from the hospital and get-ting along fine. Mrs. Thelma Clark is now assist-- I ant branch manager of the Studio Girl cosmetics, which she is sell-ing. She spent Friday in Spring-ville. Mrs. Donna Ivie Christensen is in the Utah Valley hospital, as a baby boy was born to her Thurs-day, Feb. 16. They are both doing fine. Thursday evening the Lady Eag-les entertained at a Valentine Par-ty in the lodge hall in Provo,. A pot-luc- k lunch was furnished by the ladies. Mrs. Thelma Clark, Mrs. Beryl Crum, Mrs. Kay Aitkins, Mrs. Norma Majers, Louise Clark and Effie Allen were among the 50 who enjoyed the evening. Mrs. Grayson Roper and baby Jackie were in Delta Monday and spent the day with Mr. and Mrs. Lucian Black and family. Mr. and Mrs. Don Williams spent the week end in Salt Lake. Mrs. Jennie Huddleston went to Salt Lake Thursday to visit her daughter Virginia. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Shipley were among the shoppers in Provo Sat-urday. ' Mrs. Nona Chesley spent Friday and Saturday in Salt Lake City, and attended La Traviata and Ma-dame Butterfly, performed by the San Carlo opera company. Her sis-ter, Miss Luana Pearson, returned to Delta with her and visited Sun-day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Pearson. Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Jewkes, former Deltans and now living in Salt Lake City, spent Sunday in Delta, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Max Hannifin. Mr. Jewkes is employed in Colorado with the bureau of land management, division of grazing, with headquarters at Craig' Their son, McKay Jewkes, South Summit outstanding player in the basketball tournament last year, is now in the U. S. army, sta tioned at Ford Ord, Cal. Picked on the all-st- state team' last year, McKay continues playing with the Sixty army team, piling up a good record. Leamington Mrs. Pearl Nelson Mr. and Mrs. Fay Fielding ana family spent Saturday in Pleasant Grove Barbara and Jo Ann at-tended the opera of Madame But-terfly in Salt Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nielson and Jack spent the weekend in Salt Lake visiting and shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Dutson and son flew down from Provo Wednes day to see their father in the Del-ta hospital. They returned home Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Walsh and Mr. and Mrs. Dene Dutson and son drove down from Salt Lake to visit their parents. Leonard Dutson came home from the hospital last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Dutson and Mr. and Mrs. Burton Hansen visit-ed in Scipio Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Rex Peterson. Mrs. Mary Nielson is spending this week in Scipio with Mrs. Ruby Esklund. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Dutson and daughter from Rerie, Ida., visited with Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Dutson and other relatives on their way to Arizona to visit her parents. Mr. and Mrs. M: C. Dutson had his niece from Blanding visiting with them for a few days. Parents Day held at school on Thursday afternoon was a big suc-cess. Most all the parents were out to enjoy the program and mov-ies. Mrs. George H. Johnson of Holden and Supt. Maughan were the speakers. After the program the PTA served light refreshments. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Whicker, of Hinckley, left Sunday to drive to San Francisco where they will visit Mr. Whicker's sister, Mrs. Marjorie Hildebrandt, and brother, Floyd Whicker and families. They were accompanied by their young son and daughter, and an older daugh-ter, Mrs. Bonnie Manis, from Salt Lake City. |
