Show Memorial Rites Pay Tribute To Glen R. Elder Many friends attended the memorial mem-orial services held Sunday afternoon after-noon in Oak City ward chapel for Ptc. Glen R. Elder, who was killed in action in Korea July 11, 1950. The services were conducted by Arthur L. Cahoon Post 89, American Americ-an Legion, and Bishop Burnis Finlinson. Fin-linson. Pfc. Elder was born in Oak City Jan. 12, 1931, a son of Parley and Maggie Rawlinson Elder. He enlisted en-listed in the U. S. Army in Jan, 1948, and served in Japan two years. At the outbreak of war in Korea, he was sent there, and paid the supreme sacrifice for his country. The services opened with the advance ad-vance of the colors by the Legion and prayer by Parley Roper. A tribute to the war hero was given by Milton V. Theobald, post commander. com-mander. Other speakers who paid tribute to the courage and loyalty of the young soldier were Maiben Stephenson, Don Anderson, Will Bradfield and Frank Bishop, district dist-rict region commander. Music was given by the Oak City ward choir, a trio from Leamington, Lea-mington, and a trio from Delta. Mrs. Margaret Roper gave a musical mus-ical reading, accompanied by Thel-ma Thel-ma Dutson. Glen Rawlinson sang a vocal solo. Dorothy Roper gave a reading. The Legion gave the pledge o' allegiance, and retired the colors after prayer by Willis ; Dutson. |
