Show No Wonder It Was Cold... I j - ' . - r ' if i . ... - - . ' . 1 ' : ' ' :' ' . I' ' - ' ' :' : V. ': " With 42 inches of snow on the level and drifts piled more than 6 feet, small wonder that weather weath-er reports from the Airways Com munication Station were sub-zero. sub-zero. The instrument shelter shown here houses their maxi- mum and minimum thermome ters and psychrometer at the Delta Municipal airport. This picture was taken at 2 a.m., a time exposure, by Norman Nor-man Johnson, aircraft communicator. communi-cator. The reading at that time was 24 below, and colder by morning. The pathway was shoveled in to the shelter and snow piled on the sides, until it got too high to throw more on. Then the men carried the snow out. Temperature reports from the CAA differed during the cold 3 or 4 degrees from those from Deseret, generally warmer a few times colder. Air currents on the sandhill and 100 feet more elevation ele-vation may account for that. Wednesday, Feb. 23, the CAA reported 39 above at 4:30 p.m. At Deseret, at the same time, it was 32 above, but had been up to 39 earlier. Well, that sounds much better than reports they were giving two weeks ago. |
