Opera Wins Applause Curtain calls and prolonged applause ap-plause marked the pleasure of a most appreciative audience Monday Mon-day night, at the production of "Rigoletto", presented by the Branch Agricultural College music department. The production, under the direction of Prof. W. H. Manning, Man-ning, was done excellently, with the talented young singers giving a fine performance of Verdi's immortal im-mortal opera. A full house, at both matinee and evening performances in the Delta high school auditorium, greeted the Cedar City troupe. Headed by a cast of 25, accompanied accomp-anied by the orchestra, directors, stage personnel and helpers, close to sixty persons made the trip here with the opera, and were guests of the townspeople for their overnight over-night stay. A double cast was trained for the principal roles, so that at the matinee Luana Wood Riddell sang the role of Gilda, and Emma Lou Warren took the part at night. C. E. Foster was Rigoletto at the matinee, mat-inee, and Dahl Gleave sang that part at night. Wallace Adams was the Duke of Mantua at both performances. per-formances. Other members of the cast were Emron Jensen, Gordon Beckstrand, Doyle Rowley, Rhead Gunn, Dan Speakman, Vernie Anderson, And-erson, Elaine Wilcken, Dolores Fife and Nada Garden. Iixthe chorus were some of these and Louis Quails, Alma Dalton, Reid Hunter, Allen Ballard, Duane Judd, Mitchell Lunt, Joseph Beckstrand and Dee Wilcken. Dee Wilcken, who acted as stage mechanic, and sang with the chorus, and Elaine Wilcken, who sang Countess Ceprano in the matinee, and Gilda's nurse at night, were back in their old home town that night. Their parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Q. Wilcken, now live in Salt Lake City. A special word of praise goes to the orchestra of 28 members, whose music, directed by Prof R. L. Halvorsen, added greatly to the performance. At the close of the evening's performance, per-formance, the Lady Lions served sandwiches and soft drinks to the entire cast on the stage. Prof. Manning expressed the appreciation apprecia-tion of their group for the hospi-1 tality they enjoyed in Delta, both in the homes and in the theatre, where an attentive audience called call-ed forth their best efforts. He was assured in return that their visit to Delta was both welcomed and enjoyed. This performance was sponsored by the Delta high school as a benefit, bene-fit, for the purchase of band uniforms. uni-forms. A net profit of $163 was realized for the fund, after expenses, expens-es, such as royalty, taxes, and so forth, were taken out.
