Show Sat. Eve. Post And Br. Peck Spin a Yarn The Saturday Evening Post of Oct. 23 carried a second article by Dr. J. H. Peck, entitled "How I Put Down the Redskins." If you've already read it, don't stop me. If you haven't read it, that is purely your misfortune, for it is high entertainment. en-tertainment. In a disarmingly simple sim-ple narrative, every word the truth, Dr. Peck leads the reader through the heroic account of how he quashed an Indian rebellion. This was way back in 1918, and the action took place around Mt. Ibapah, including Gold Hill and the Goshute Indian reservation Dr. Peck was the hero, or so we learn, just like the movies, he says, with some exceptions. Apparently written wit the greatest of ease, it is read the same way, with a grin all through and some deeper chuckles. The illustrations il-lustrations are good too, by Leo Hershfield, one of the stalwart cap tives, and another of the author, toe-ed out conferring with rebel-, lious tribesmen. A note from the Post editors with the article states that after Dr. Peck's first article appeared, Jan. 17, 1948, "I Cured Myself from Working," he received 750 inquiries inquir-ies by mail on his methods, and had some 800 visitors last summer to see how he did it. |
