' the Essay Contest, commemorating ji the Swedish Pioneer Centennial, : ' ! sponsored by the Swedish Ameri- r ! can Line, spent three days in New t : York as a guest of the Line. The : : : Third Prize was either $200. in cash ;; or a trip to New York, with all ex- i , penses paid. Miss Larson picked l the trip to New York and arrived y. by air from her hometown, Wed- ! nesday, June 30, just in time to ( i. participate in the climax of the ! : centennial celebrations the grand S ; banquet at the Hotel Waldorf-As- toria, given in honor of the official Swedish delegations, headed by Prince Bertil. Miss Larson was one of the 18 winners in the Essay Contest on the subject of "The Influence of Swedish Settlers on a Community or Region". After three days of sightseeing, broadways shows, a showing of a just finished film on the three Scandinavian 'countries, lunches and dinners and also a tour of the Line's new motorship "Stockholm", which was in port during her visit, Miss Larson returned re-turned to Cedar City. ' She is showni in the picture, discussing dis-cussing her essay, entitled "Immigrant "Immi-grant Family" with G. Hilmer Lundbeck, Jr., American managing director of the Line in New York. |
