It washes off like pieces of sand or small stones. ANSWER: Give up the idea of painting the floor with lacquer. You might be able to pour a new topping coat on the present floor, since it probably is rough enough already. They ion't smoke, but they are open with ao damper, so that they really consume con-sume warm air and fuel. Can a iamper be purchased that will not require taking out half the chimney to install ANSWER: That cannot be done In a chimney that is already built, tf you wish to close off the fireplace jpening much of the time, have a sheet metal panel made to fit the opening that can be taken out when the fireplace is to be used. This panel will prevent the escape of warm air up the chimney. QUESTION: I have a large window, win-dow, the pane of which when broken Is expensive to replace. I am wondering won-dering if it would be practical to put in a vertical strip to divide the Bash, thus using two panes half the present size. Could I do it myself? ANSWER: It would be best to take the sash to a millwork shop to have the mulin bar inserted there. The sash will have to be grooved to hold the bar in place. If there is no mill handy, a competent carpenter carpen-ter should be able to do this for you. QUESTION: How do you remove re-move black marks on a varnished floor caused by bed rollers? ANSWER: Rub lightly with a handful of very fine steel wool moistened with turpentine, then touch up the spots with a little paste wax. |
