Dec. 2.1948 I Guests as the home of Mr. and 'Mrs. Wallace Holman for Thanks-- 1 giving were their daughter, Faye and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Turner, and daughter Jackie from Los Angeles. With them were Mr. Holman's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Plus. They visited here from Thursday so Saturday. Leland Hunsaker, who has been stationed at San Diego with the U. S. Navy, arrived in Delta Wednes-day, on his first leave, He will visit in Delta with his mother, Mrs. Emma Hunsaker, and others of the family. Leland was graduated from Delta high school last June, and enlisted in the navy last Sept.. Mrs. Melvin Mitchell was in Delta during the past week, and returned to Salt Lake to be with Mr. Mitchell, who is there in the hospital. He was operated on Tues- - Mr. and Mrs. Oak Dutson and Mr. and Mrs. Evan Christensen iand families spent last Thursday in Fillmore for Thanksgiving dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Newell Day. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Harris, and family, of Delta, and Mr. and Mrs. Barl Harris, and family, of Oak City, spent Thanksgiving Day in Beaver, for dinner with their bro-ther, Arvil Harris, and family. Guest of honor that day was Mrs. Frances Harris Jones, their aunt, who is now 92 years old. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Forster had a letter Monday from their son, Elder Merlin Forster, telling of his arrival in San Diego, where he has been assigned in the LDS mission field. He went from Salt Lake to El Paso, Texas, in Nov. and was assigned from there to southern California. day morning, for back injuries in an accident several years ago. An operation was post-poned from last week until this week. Blaine George, from the AC at Logan, iand Mr. and Mrs. Earl George, from Salt Lake, were din-ner guests and visitors on Thanks-giving with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Owen George. John Daly, Jr., attending the U of U spent the weekend holidays in Delta with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Daly. John returned from the navy last summer and register-ed at the University in September. Miss Carol Haumann, attending Westminster college in Salt Lake, spent the Thanksgiving vacation in Delta with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haumann. Miss Oarol Hansen was home for Thanksgiving vacation from the BYU with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hansen. She had as her guest Miss Hanniah Call, of du Blan, Mexico, now attend-ing the BYU. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Stapley, and brother, Jerry Stapley, of Salt Lake City, spent Thanksgiving day in Delta, visiting their mother, Mrs. Blythe Taggart. Mr. and Mrs. Charley Allen spent several days in Salt Lake last week. Mrs. A. C. Gunter and two daugh ters, Cheryl iand Georgine, from Oak Park, 111., are visiting Mrs. Leland Twitchell while Mr. Gunter installs a True Aid plant in Manila P. I. He is scheduled to arrive in Delta somtime around Christmas to take his family home. Mr. and Mrs. Ephraim Twitchell and son, Ephraim, Jr., were down from Provo to spend Thanksgiving with his sister, Mrs. Heber Rose and family. Miss Carmen Rose was also home. She left again Sunday with Kath-ry- n Pace, Rayda Bishop, Colleen Nielson, Louise Skidmore iand Blanch Chamberlain to resume the winter quarter at the BAC. Miss Blanch Chamberlain is the Phys. Ed. instructor at the BAC. Alumui Bnniiot Set for Dec. 29 The annual Delta high school alumni banquet will be held Dec. 29, according to & decision made Monday night at a committee meeting. The affair will be held in the Delta high, school, and fur-ther plans will be announced later. Alumni are asked to mark that date now, and save it for the ban-- I quet. Dridal Couple feted in Idaho Miss Ina Neeley and Blaine Lyman of Rexburg, Idaho, were married Tuesday, Nov. 30, at a ceremony in the Idaho Falls tem-ple of the LDS church. The bride-groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lyman of Rexburg,, well-know- n former county residents. On Friday night, Nov. 26, the young couple were honored at a reception held in Rexburg. Among the many guests were Mr. and Mrs. Evan Christensen and Martha Dutson of Delta, Mr. and Mrs. New-ell Day of Fillmore and their moth-er, Mrs. Mary Finlinson of Oak City, the grandmother and three aunts of Mr. Lyman. They visited at Rexburg from Friday to Sunday. Mrs. Maggie Nelson, and sister Mrs. Becy Terry, of Cedar City, lare visiting in Delta with their mother, Mrs. Mary Ann Corry. Elder Dlack Says Mexico City Is Deautiful Spot Elder Ladd Black, emissary from Delta 2nd ward to the Spanish mission of the LDS Church, has arrived safely in Mexico City. His parents, Bishop and Mrs. June Black, received a letter Thanksgiv-ing Day from him, telling of his new headqufcrters, and saying that he thinks Mexico City is the most beautiful city in the world. Travelling there, Ladd went as far as El Paso, .Texas by bus, with 15 missionaries for the church, them Kimball Hansen and Merlin Forster. Six missionaries went on to Mexico City, four young men and two young women on the train. Ladd will serve two years in the field, with Mexico City as headquarters. Mexico City has a elevation of iiuu ieet, land the climate is dry temperate and healthful.lt abounds in scenic and historic interest, there and thereabouts,, and Ladd plans much sightseeing, in addition to his duties in the mission field. Hinckley MIA To Present Play On Tuesday, December 14 the Hinckley ward MIA will present a ct mystery comedy, "The Haunt- ed House, written by Owen Davis ,d'r?cted by D. A. Allred. The P ay, taken from the MIA book of plays is full of laughs and chills, and promises to be a delightful evening of entertainment. The cast includes: Clyde Stevens who plays Morgan; Valeda Hilton, playing Emily; Dana Pratt, who is Jack; Jeff carter, Thomas, Ross Hilton, Duncan; Angie Pratt, Helen; Evelyn Bliss, Isabel; Dale Love Ezra; flaine Wilson, Ed; Lafe Niel-so- Grogon; and Blaine Robinson who plays the part of Evans Tally Tab Club Met Thursday Marie Jensen entertained the Tally Tab Club at her home Thurs-day evening. Lunch was served to guests: Wanda Johnsen and club member Vera Giles, Venece Taylor, Helen Fowles, Zada Shields, Nelda Evans, Grace Fowles and the hostess Mar-ie Jensen. Pinochle was played and high score was held bv Vera Giles. 2nd high by Zada Shields and low by Grace Fowles. Wanda Johansen re-ceived a guest prize. ; Daby Daughter Brought Home Sharlene, the 11 months old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newell Dewsnup, was brought home Sun-day night from a Salt Lake hos-pital. The baby was operated on there 2 weeks lago, for grain surgery, the second such delicate operation. They called here to visit their cousin, Mrs. Emil Pearson and family. They were returning to Montana after a trip to Mead-ow, for the funeral services and burial of their father, George Stott who died in Montana. Miss Rhea May Maxfield from Orem, was a guest of Miss Luana Pearson in Delta for Thanksgiving. OASIS Mrs. La Veda Bishop Berdell Memmott and Fred Skeem have returned from a week nd spent in Cedar City. Wash Roundy and son, Howard, were in Cedar City Sunday, where Howard will remain and attend the BAC for the rest of the winter. Helen Skeem spent Thanskgiving with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Skeem. She returned to Salt Lake City Sunday to resume her course at the LDS hospital, ac-companied by her mother. Mr. iand Mrs. Glen Skeem and daughter, Evelyn, and Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Skeem and Mrs. Dessa Skeem, went to Salt Lake City to spend Thanksgiving. Gloria Stewart was home for the holidays, then returning to Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Christensen were dinner guests on Nov. 23rd, Mrs. Christensen's birthday, at the home of her brother and wife in Fillmore. Mr. and Mrs. Arlyin Styler iand family spent Friday and Saturday in Provo and Mona. CAR OVERTURNS Gerald Skeem and Jack Manis were coming from Fillmore Sunday when their oar overturned and was badly damaged. The boys escaped with scratches and bruises. They were picked up and brought into Delta. When Jack Bennett, deputy sheriff, went out to determine the damages, he found the car had caught on fire, and was all burned up, excepting three tires. When the wrecking crew went back to get the car, ,one of the tires had been stolen. The car was partly covered by insurance. Mr. and Mrs. Layton Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Bishop and son, Gerald, spent Thursday and Friday ni Sandy eating Thanksgiving din-ner with Mr. and Mrs. E. L. They visited other rela-tives in Salt Lake City before com-ing home. MIA REORGANIZED Mutuals of Oasis wards were re-organized this week. New heads for the YMMIA are Pawn Hawley, president; Melvin Hawley and Ber-dell Memmott, counselors; Harold Skeem, secretary. Heading the YL MIA are SteUa Hawley, president, Pearl Hawley and Ethel Skeem, counselors, iand Fonetta Skeem, as secretary. The new officers opened their duties with a social and dance on Tuesday night, Nov. 30. Mr. and Mrs. Peter M. Anderson are spending a few days in Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Day iand baby spent Thanksgiving Day in Provo. Mr. and Mrs. Rulon Calilster and children, Judy and Robert, spent the weekend in Salt Lake City. Home for the Thanksgiving holi-days from the BAC at Cedar City were Ora Mae Bishop, Kenneth May Joe Barney and Richard May. Family All Home For Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Day was a special day of rejoicing for Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Webb of Hinckley. All their children and their families were home with them, to pay special honor to Elva, who left Friday morning to go to Chicago for the National 4-- Congress. Out of town dinner guests were Boyd and Ardis Murray and four children of Altonah, Utah; Loren and Beulah Rowley and 3 children of Deseret; Duane and Jean Galli and Paula, of Garrison; Calvin and Carol Webb and Kathryn, of Tooele, and Fred Skeem of Oasis. i Ardis and her children are stay-ing to visit with her parents for a week or two. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Mack from Provo, were Delta vistors a week ago with Mrs. Mack's parents,, Mr. and Mrs. David Terry. Mr. iand Mrs. Roland Robins and Miss Maurine Robins, from the BYU spent the Thanksgiving holi-days in Delta, with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenith Robins. |
