Show to w m NORTH DAKOTA ELECTION The North Dakota recall election is assured. as-sured. It probably will be held Tuesday, November 1. Enough signatures are on the petition to make it necessary under the recall law. The recall is aimed at Gov. Frazier, Attorney General Lenke and Labor La-bor Commissioner Hagen. These three are menibers of the state industrial commission, com-mission, which under Nonpartisan League control, became vested with exten sive power. There are no Democrats or Republicans in North Dakota when this issue is' involved. It is a question of being for or against the Nonpartisan League and the industrial commission. The recall election will be of more than state wide interest. Not only has there been immediate effect felt by banks and business concerns quite generally from the North Dakota situation, but students of economics and particularly those interested in-terested in what really has been an experiment ex-periment in" state wide socialism have followed developments closely. At present the Bank of North Dakota is not paying checks drawn on it by its depositors. Not a tap of work is beinc June by the Mill and Elevator association which has a half-built mill and elevator, into which about a million so far has been pat. The Home Building association has stopped work, and the various other enterprise en-terprise such as chains of newspapers iiic giticery stores, that were t brine untold un-told happiness to the farmers while knocking down the hated money power, a1! are dormant everywhere over the state there is disgust. Nonpartisan League people have kept iheir adherents pretty well in line by saying say-ing that as soon as the state bonds were sold, activities would be resumed bv all these various auxiliaries, but the bonds have been offered extensively in New York and Chicago and nobody seems to want them Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Washington and other western states are congratulating congratu-lating themselves that they were able to defeat the plans of the Nonpartisan League leaders during the past four years.' The league is now opening a campaign cam-paign in Oregon. |
