Cavalrymen - Hold Ford Against 25 Mexican Outlaws Ysleta, Tex., June 13. rTwo American cavalrymen held the ford here late last night against a band of twenty-five armed and mounted Mexicans who attempted to raid the i American settlement, driving them back Into Mexico after a third had come to their assistance. I The Mexicans charged across tho U Rio Qrande at the old Ysleta ford, I . one mile below tho town and thirteen thir-teen miles east of El Paso. They opened fire on tho two mounted cav- airy patrols, who dismounted, found cover, and returned the fire. The Mexicans were driven back. One of tho troopers said he saw a man drop from his saddle, but no bodies could be found. The Boldiors who held tho ford were Privates Blake and Dearlng, troop C, Eighth cavalry. Corporal McDade reinforced them. Troops were sent from El Paso and Fort Bliss, but the Mexicans did not return. |
