Show bbV TJ. A. C. BILL GETS THE AX. H representative Joseph S, Campbell's bill providing for H teaching the Agricultural Pedagogy in the U. A. C. was H loiocked in the head with a broad ax before it had the H privilege of coming on the floor of the house of repress repre-ss .scntntives. And right here we are going to concur in m the action of the committee that killed the bill, because m -we think it ought to have been killed. In view of condi-B condi-B tions we think it unwise to attempt any movement that B ; will include any work in the U. A. C. that is taught at the B , TU- of U. Such action will be a plain duplication of work, B ' -something that the state has been trying to avoid, and' B that will attach an expense that the taxpayers ought not B to pay. We have agreed in the past to a program that B -would reduce duplication to the lowest possible minimum, ' B and let us keep the faith. 1 H Now that the bill is killed those responsible for its H "introduction ought to get busy, and with the help of their H friends, kill the movement to appropriate funds to the m University of Utah for extension purposes. Senator m Armstrong, chairman senate committee on appropria-H appropria-H tions, It is said, predicts success for this movement, while H "Representative Greenwood is pushing it in the house. H ' j This Is clearly a violation of the compact, and any H movement to foster extension work at the U. of U. H -will he a "burden upon the taxpayers. It is true the U. A. C. H is spending some state money in this capacity, but it must H Tie remembered that for every dollar the state gives the H TJ. A. C. the federal government duplicates it. This work H "belongs to the U. A. C. and it is doing it to the credit of I the school and the good of the state. From the fact that the TJ. A. C. Pedagogy bill was introduced is no reason why the U.of U. should receive state money for extension work. That the Pedagogy bill was killed is in accord with the compact, and it will be uniust now to violate it in tho matter of extension work'forthe U. of U. All readers of i tins paper should protest to Senator Funk and our repre- H ' j 'sentatives and insist that the compact be lived up to. |
