Show H Concentrate On War m In Germany it is said that !0 per cent of tho m Industries of the country are concentrated on war B work. This Includes of course, not merely munition H work, but food production. In our country the In- H duslrlcs that supply tho people with luxuries nre m going about as usual. Henry Ford has nobly shown B the way In offering the services of his plnnt for w-.ir H work, and shutting down the production of plaas- H nre ears. Ills example should bo followed by many Hi others. M Our people can go without some of their candy B and their pleasure vehicles and the frills and tho H fripperies of life, but they can not go without uc- H cess in this great war. It la going to be a long war, H and we should set our teeth and set aside forms of HJ , work that simply drag and hinder. H It seems a shame that there Is any difficulty In B getting tho necessary number of ship building mo- H chanics. Here is the very heart of our war work. H "Wo are going to send a great army to France, and H they must be well fed anil wo must supply tho usual H muount of food and munitions to our allies. Tho H submarines aro sinking ships rapidly, and the supply H of tonnage Is already too short. Munitions aro H waiting on the docks of the Atlantic ports for ships HJ to como and take them. H Meanwhile iu the shipyards tho cry for help H goes up. Men aro striking In some of them. Whilo H the work drags, our boys will dlo tor lack of tho full HJ Mipply of munitions. H Every man who ever had experience In n shlp- H yard should volunteer his services to tho govorn- I inont at this crisis. Many other mechanics with H general skill at tools could bo used. Employers should H be glad to let such men go nnd should promlso to I take them back to the old job when tho war Is over. It 8.it)in8 the hlght of folly to let this most essential H part of our war work drag. It Is up to any man who &.. can help to offer the needed assistance at this crlt- HF leal moment. |
