Show NINETEEN URGE BRIDGES I ARE OUT OF COMMISSION I -NO FUNDS FOR REPAIRS I Each Commissioner Gets $6,0C0 to Spend I During Season of 1914. Meikle Be- I lieves He Has Not Been Dealt With I Justly. i The Cache county commissioners were In session on Saturday and dur-lng dur-lng the greater part of tho afternoon spent the tlmo in discussing road matters and tho division of road funds which are at the command ot the commissioners for tho coming season. 918,000 was set nsldo for road. purposes, and after a full discussion dis-cussion of tho condition In each district dis-trict the 'funds, wero divided equally, among each district. Commissioner Facer getting $0000; Commissioner Cronqulst gotting $6000 and Commissioner Commis-sioner Moiklo getting $0000. This division of funds was not to tho liking of Commissioner Meikle and ho entered his protest. In the north district it nnpears that thero aro nineteen Isidgos to exceed, a twonty foot span which aro out of commission. Many ot these bridges aro so badly out of repair that they will necessarily bo closed to traffic. Some of tho bridges aro vory Important, Im-portant, ns thoy servo a great many farmers who havo considerable pro-duco pro-duco to got to tho market. To enumerate enu-merate somo of theso bridges, will state that thero aro threo across Bear river: tho Cub river bridge and tho Spring creok brldgo which aro tho outlet to tho railroad for Lowlston on tho east and tho Bear river bridge noar Cornish which Is tho Lowlston outlet to the railroad on tho wost nro all out of repair and tho town of Lowlston, it might bo said, is simply sim-ply quarantined. Tho approach to the Cub river- ifl brldgo near the Merrill Mill; eleven, H bridges over tho Wost Cache canal M are all so badly out ot repair, that H they will not permit of an engine to H cross. The Smlthfleld bridge across , H Bear river is in a bad shape. AnotU- H or brldgo Is tho one at Clarkston, H which crosses the Clarkston creak is H practically down. All those bridges H need repairs or. to be replaced by H new- ones and all tho funds at baud . H is $0000. More than that amount can bo sunk into tho Cornish brldge'over U Bear river. H Commissioner Melklo's plan was to havo tho commissioners go as n hoard Wer the county and put tho elghroeu U thousand dollars whero it was nooded tho worst. Fix up tho bridges which aro needed to. bo repaired nnd lot the money go as far as It would. This motion would not be considered. , It Is contended by tho commission- ' cr from tho north nnd conceded to bo tho other commissioners that the tm roads in tho south end of tho :ounty J nro at least fifteen years in advance IB of tho north end In the matter of I permanent road and brldgo construe- I tlon. Far this reason Mr. Melklo doos not think that tho othor contuls- ' sloners mado un equitable division ot, s tho funds. Ho bolloves ho mado a hard fight for what ho contended to be right and just, but lost, and now says ho will go ahead and do what llttlo ho can with the funds' he ha at hand. , , |
