Mo-thr Mo-thr Mary Jones, the aged strike leader lead-er left tonight for Trinidad In deft ance of military orders. She went unaccompanied un-accompanied and her train Is scheduled schedul-ed to arrive at Trinidad early tomorrow tomor-row morning. I certainly expect to be rearrested the moment I step from the train, she said tonight, and I will go back to the hospital, slncet he soldiers have the bayonets and I have no',hln hut the constitution. Govortnor Amnions nor General Chase had been advised of her departure de-parture up to a late hour tonight, but Governor Ammons in discussing the strike situation generally declared that he hoped Mother Jons would remain out of Trinidad, for I certainly cer-tainly bolleve her presence there,-even there,-even If she is arrested will result In bloodshed. When she returns, ho continued, It will be In direct defiance to the state and it seems hardly fitting that the state should be Insulted by tho very people who havo made It necessary for the state to spend more than a halt million dollars to keep peace and order. I have given the state militia no further orders In regard to Mother Jones, and, so far as I know nokie will be given, but in this strike you can not tell what conditions will arise at any time. Horace N. Hawkins, attorney tor the United Mine Workers ot America, Ameri-ca, stated tonight that In event Mother Mo-ther Jones Is rearrested in Trinidad the supreme court of the state will be asked to take original Jurisdiction In habeas corpus proceedings. It having hav-ing been demonstrated by the previous previ-ous habeas corpus case in Trinidad, that Mother Jones can get no rello from the district courts. |
