Show More Delay , There does not seem to be much chance that the revenue rev-enue bill will get through the senate until some time after the first of the year, in which case the internal revenue commissioner has announced that he will proceed to make collections under the old law. Perhaps that is w"hat some of the senators desire. Nevertheless there should not be unnecessary delay when such important legislation is under un-der consideration. The house ways and means committee began work on the revenue bill eight months ago, and it Was passed by unanimous vote many weeks ago. Then I the senate finance committee announced that radical I changes would be made in the measure. It was known, however, that tfie, committee planned to substitute a bill of their own and the country has been patiently awaiting the outcome. The approach of peace has entered conditions condi-tions to some extent, but the need of money for the pres-, pres-, ent fiscal year is just as great as it was before the armis-i armis-i tice was signed. This being the case, the senate committee commit-tee on finance should "spcccUup" and report the result of their long travail without further procrastination. It is probably true that there is a wide divergence of opinon as to what should or chould not bo done in the fixing of rates of taxation. But differences of opinion have always existed, and there is no reason to suppose that they will i not exist in the future as thoy have in the past. But tho fact remains that differences ca nbe reconciled, compro- B mises effected and necessary legislation enacted without H long and weary, debates in the senate, which never result - . in anything practical or do any real good.
