Show B. Y. C. AND U. A. G. DEFEAT THEW.S.H.S. The West Side High School basket ball team of Salt Lako City tame to town, last Friday and Saturday' to play the local colleges basket ball. 'They Just met the Brlgham Young College team, The local church collegians col-legians played the High School team In Salt Lake City Just before the holidays, and defeated them very easily. Everybody of course, expected expect-ed Coach Knapp's men to have a walk away. The game Friday night in the B. Y. C. gymnasium turned out to be one. of the hardest games ever played in our city. It kept Coach Knapp's boys going every minute to win out and only in the last few minutes did they take much of a lead. The final score was 39 to 31. , The basket shooting of Leonard, the right forward of tho High School team, was little of marvelous. There neVer has been a game In the old B. Y. C. gymnasium when -such accurate ac-curate long shoots have ever been made, and the little famous guard of the B. Y. C, Marlcr, should not be censured for allowing his man to get eight baskets, because they were all made from at least two thirds the length of tho field. The shooting of Leonard Is what made the score so close. The B. Y. C. forwards are to bo complimented on the way they handled han-dled this end of the game. The work of Holes, as a running forward was excellent, and this youth before the season is over will no doubt make one of the speediest forwards In the State. Thorpe, at center, seems to be .1 weak link in the collego team. He lacks experience, -Jiut-he-has got the size and the Jump and probably will yet make the team as a regular. Coach Knapp has a likely bunch of players, and no doubt before the season Is over he will be a stumbling block to some ambitious team. The lineup and summary: B. Y. C. F.O F.P. T.P. C. game and could not put up the game that they did tho night before. Coach Jcnson used his entlro lineup which was thirteen men. The team work of the Farmers was very bad and a great deal of work will havo to be done in order for thorn to do anything any-thing with tho other colleges. Coach Jenson Is very much put out over tho Impression everybody has got ot the great ability ot his team. Ho admits that they aro good high school men, but nono of them havo over played college ball, which is a tremendous loss when considering con-sidering tho experienced players of other colleges. Mohr, at guard, looked very good and should locate a permanent 1 placo on tho team. Spencer at forward is a wonderful wonder-ful player, but ho needs to learn the art of following up tho ball. Nielsen at center, could learn a few things about passing and learn also to look nt tho man who Is to recolvo tho ball. Jarvis Is tricky nd foxy, but Is not very rough. Pesty should learn to rough tt a littlo moro. Tho Aggies piled up a big scoro but it ought to havo been bigger, nagged team work was tho main weakness of tho Aggies. The total score was 81 to 9. Tho Aggies used Spencer, (Capt.) Jarvis, Mohr, Sumsion, Nielsen, Borutson, Jorgeson, Andson, Han- "" .-( son, Worlcy, Stlefel, Clyde and Harris. Har-ris. Tho West Sldo used tho sanio Hno-up Hno-up as they did against the Crimsons. |
