Show AS TO SCHOOL BONDS. Editor Republican Wo as a people belloo that education educa-tion Is 'the corner Mono of civil and religious liberty. Wo believe In schools and In- education and In progress. In the matter of our school buildings, our county Is not retrograding instead of progressing and tho proposed school bond'offors the only solution of tho question. A special tax Is nut of tho question, as it would not carry since so many towns are making local Improvements, Im-provements, such ns meeting houses, water systems ana electric light plants. Even If u heavy special tax could be carried, It would not relievo tho situation. Ten places are reported as In need of school room. Tho only solution lies In voting the bond of $150,000 which distributes n light tax over u long period, but gives us the school houses Immediately. If the present building tax of one and a half mills Is discontinued by the board of education, tho two and a qunrter mill tax necessary to covor sinking fund niul Interest on tho bond will Incrcnso our taxes but little. If a man's property Is assessed nt Jt.000, It would only Increnso his tax 7f cents. Wo have ewy nRsurnnce that tho money will be expended judiciously. Home mntcrlal will boused and homo labor employed. Thereby much of tho bond monoy will find Its wny back to tho people. Wo who aro sending our children to crowded, poorly lighted, and unsnnl-tary unsnnl-tary school rooms appeal to yon, our more favored friends, not to sand in tho wny of getting tho school room wo so much need. Wo realize that you aro your brother's broth-er's keeper and wo ask you to use your power for our good. SCHOOL PATRON. - - |
