Show AT THE THEATRE The Mack Swnln Stock company reaped Its reward Wednesday and Thudsday evening when they produced pro-duced that old tlmo, but ever popular play, "Old Kentucky" to a crowded house, and "Threo Weeks, tho latest sensation, to "standing room only," "Old Kentucky" was presented with not a hitch, not a mlssent cut to mar Its evenness, and when the final climax cli-max came with tho appearance of the dashing heroine nnd the horso that won tho race, "ye gods" and the audience au-dience went wild. Thursday's bill, "Threo Weeks," drew the crowd, and how a play, such'aB this, heavy, and so unusually out of the ordinary, with original plot, could be presented, with nil scenic effects at the wonderfully low prlco of admission, Is beyond comprehension. Mr. Max Walzmau, who It will bo remembered, took the pnrt of Shcmlnn In Zalmona, recently produced here, rilled only a minor role but rilled It to tho satisfaction or all. The heavy part fell to Mr. Dnvlllo, as tho English lord, who worshipped at tho shrlno of Madame Zalenskn, or the Queen of Snrdalia .Corn King Swnln,, nnd who, for three weeks languished in tho arm's" of love and affection, showed up remarkably strong. Miss Swnln was .exceptional regal and queenly In her- double role; tho womnn nnd woman lovo being tbo predominating characterlsts. Una had come to view the piece, reading eastern criticisms, us a play of a racy anture, but where is there a man, Imbued with all thu common charac' tcrlstlcs of storing manhood, and with a love of common sense and lovo of race, would not rlso up In nrms roi; such n rine, noble woman, unfortunately unfortun-ately linked through senseless royal customs nnd laws, to n besotted, debauched de-bauched and doddering Idiot, with tho regal title of a king. While tbo union wns nn lllclt one, who. enn blame, If fnte did rear n new heir to the throne, of Sardnlla, tainted with ngllsh blood nnd freedom. The final cltmax was realistic, but Mndame SCalenska do served n better fate. The comed part of Mack Swnln ns the Kngllshbutlui; was n true "Johnny," not overdono or boisterous, as Is tho fault with ninny nctors. The rest of tho company wore strong, atuiday, there will bo n mat-Ineo mat-Ineo nt u 10 mid !!()c rnte, with nn Ico cream social thrdown In, "Her Only Sin" will bo presented. Snturduy night, owing to u grout demniid, tho.grent play "Tbrto Y&ckB" will 1)0 again produced. Many p'coplu were turned uwny Thursday night, nnd nil who wnntno see this great fniowell production, had better J call for their seats early. Standing room only should lie th sign. |
