Show THE "NEWS" AGAIN. Tho attention of our readers Is once more directed to the unfairness or the Dcsoict News on the college question. Last Sunday that paper contained a short editorial squib indicating that the Massachusetts School or Technology Technol-ogy had been consolidated with Harvard Har-vard Unlvcisltv. Tun Rki'ijiilican pointed out that The News was wrong and gave a short explanation or the agitation two or three years ago which ended in the School of Technology ic-talning ic-talning its Identity. Pros. Elliott, of Harvard, himself, went on record as against the consolidation, saying that consolidation can only ruin a magnificent magnifi-cent school. The News did not have tho graco to toll Its readers that It made a mis-statement, but on Thursday Thurs-day that esteemed publication printed In the same column a squib which gives the He to its former statement. The News says: "Harvaidami Technology graduates ars having a regular monkey and par-lot par-lot time over tlm proposed merger. Culture and science appear to havo laid aside their manners during tho continuance of tho dispute." Do you observe that The News says the "proposed merger?" Fiom reading read-ing its former editorial the only conclusion con-clusion possible was that these schools had already been consolidated yeais before and that the consolidation had proved a marked success. There is no consolidation at present, and though there Is now a scrap on it is not or tho nature or the recent one In the Stato or Utah. The News can not say that tho tight will lesult In consolidation, nor can It prove In any way that 'such a consolidation would be a success. Tho attitude or the News, Tribune, and Herald Is such that tho people or tho State, whoso institution tho A. C. or U. is, can not hope ror fairness on the part of the Salt Lake press. ' , |
