Show Charles S. Tingcy, candidate for secretary of state, was born in Salt Lake October 25, 1850. Son of the late John Tlngey, who for a number of years was bishop of the 17th, ward, Salt Lake City. Received his education edu-cation in the Morgan Business college and Dcseret University. From 1873 to 1880 was employed as clerk in the Thirteenth ward co-op. In 1680 formed a partneiship with Hyrum Stewart in a successful mercantile mer-cantile business at Kaysville, Davis county which continued until 1887 when, on account of ID health, he sold his interest to Mr. Stewart and purchased pur-chased and stocked a ranch In Juab county. In 1800 became connected with the firm of C. Andrews & Co., wool merchants of Nephi. In 1802 became be-came manager of the Hyde & Whlt- morc Mercantile company, of Nephi. In May, 1893, was appointed cashier of the Nephi Savings Rank and Trust company' and In October of 1694 accepted ac-cepted the position of cashier of the First National bank of Nephi, which position he held until lie assumed assum-ed the otllce of state auditor in January, Janu-ary, 1001. Served on the school bwrd of Nephi for two terms, and as county superintendent of schools for Juab county for one term. In 1880 manied Sarah L. Hyde, daughter of William Hyde, at that time chief ot police of Salt Lake City Daniel Newton Straup, candidate for justice of supiemc court, was born in Pennsylvania forty-two years ago. When a" child he, with his parents, moved to South Rend, Ind., and Mr. Straup's boyhood was spent on the farm. After, receiving a common school education he cnteied the Northern Nor-thern Indiana college at Valparaiso, Ind., and graduated from the law department de-partment of that college. Was for (two years an assistant In the otllce of Junge Edgar Crutnpacker, at present one of the leading members in con-'gress con-'gress from Indiana. Ho came to Utali fifteen years ago and entered the law otlice of Judge O.; i'W. Powers, later on becoming a mem-, ber of the ilrm of Powers & Straup," which afterward became Powers,, Straup & Llppman. Mr. Straup -has been actively engaged in the! general practice of law forycais, aridnas the confidence of the courts of Utah and the members of his profession. |
