Show THE NOMINEES Short sketches of the Republican Candidates Candi-dates on the State ticket John C. Cutler, candidate for governor, gov-ernor, was born February 5, 1840, at Shetllcld, England. He was employed In a wholesale store In Manchester prior to his coming to Utah In the year 1804. In that year he left Liverpool Liver-pool with his father, mother, three biothcrs and two sisters. The family crossed the plains, expeilencing the diniculMcs Incident to the slow and tedious trips of the pioneers of those das. Upon arriving in tills valley they settled In East Mill Creek ward, where they made their home. As' soon as the family had been comfortably comfort-ably settled John C. secured a position as clcik in a store hi Salt Lake City, where, after working for a number of years, lie obtained an interest In the business. Iietween the years 1805 and 1877 lie made several trips to New York as purchasing agent for his firm. He i did not, however, launch out into business on his own account until the year 1877, when he became the agent of the Provo woolen mills, renting fiom Riigham Young the old historic Constitution building. Later he purchased pur-chased the grcund and nut up the live-story building that now stands where the original oie was. The business has continued ever since and is now known as Cutler Rros. company. com-pany. Mr. Cutler was among the tlrst in the organization of the Utah Sugar company and Fremont County Sugar company. In addition to these he was manager of the Provo woolen mills for two years, and has been a director in that company for more than fifteen years. In additions to theso arc many other prominent industries in-dustries that owe their prosperity and success greatly to him. From 1884 to 1890 he served as county clerk of Salt Lake county, was vice-president of the Commercial club In 1D03, and is at the present time United States Jury Commissioner and director of the Descret Agricultural and Manufacturing society. He mar-licd mar-licd Sarah E. Taylor, daughter of the Thomas Taylor, and Is the father of seven children, four boys and three girls, all of whom arc living. |
