Show PROF. DRYDEN HAS RESIGNED From the Agricultural College Staff. Board disposes of this and other Matters. An Impoitant meeting of the Board of Tiunees of the Agi icultural College of Utah was held on Saturday, Aug. 27. There were picsent Piesldent W. S. McCoiuick and Trustees Jno. A. McAllster, Geoige C. Whltmore, and Evan R Owen. A laige amount of loutlne business was tiansactcd. Prof. James Drden,who has rendered render-ed ovei twelvejcais' elllcientservlco to the Institution, olleied his leslgna-tlon, leslgna-tlon, which was accepted. The Experiment Station appropriation appropria-tion fot the six months beginning July 1, 1004, was appoitloned among the several departments. It was decided that, since so much of the work of the Institution was being be-ing exhibited at the World's Fair, no exhibit would be made at the State Fair this jcar, except In the arid farm experiments. A large display of arid farm products will be made. The question of awarding contracts for light and power was defencd until Saturday, Oct. 1. The leslgnatlon of Miss Louie Thomas an assistant In the Domestic Arts Department was accepted, and MIssGertiudo Vibranswas emplojcd to fill the vacancy. Robert Stew ait, Assistant Chemist In the Experiment Station, was granted grant-ed leave of absence for six months, beginning be-ginning Oct. 1 Mr. Stew ait will take up advanced woik In chemlsti) at the cSnlversity of Chicago. Mr George V. Thatcher was 'elected 'elect-ed Dhectoi of Music, with Nettie Thatcher Sloan, Annlo IoneMaver, William Fogelbeig, Jos. A. Smith Jr., and Mrs. L. E. LlnnarU us assistants. Mi. Thatcher vvtis for four jeais a student of the New England Consei v-atory v-atory of Music; studied voice building and singing under Heiniich Mcyu of Xevv York, Augusto Rortoll of Boston, Bos-ton, and Edna Hall of Boston. He did woik on the viollncello under Lea Schullz of New Yoik, and studied harmony, countci point and composl- tion under Dr. Peiey Gootsehins of Boston. He will have peisonal charge of the woik In voice theory and cello. Mrs. Sloan was a student of the National Na-tional Consei vatory of Music at New York, taking special work under Rafael, Ra-fael, Jossefy and M. Berge. Shewli! teach piano and voice. Miss Major, a graduate of tho East Mississippi Female College, and a student stu-dent under Dcrlando, Comptou, and Horridge, will teach piano. Wllhelm Fogelbeig will have charge of the violin work. He Is a graduate of Lund Conservatory, Sweden, in violin, vio-lin, piano, and volcu; was a student under Stellar, Fevactun, and Slgnor Sabotti, and was the teacher of Saras-to. Saras-to. Jos. A. Smith Jr., the solo cornetlst in the Thatcher Orchcstia, will give Instructions on the cornet, and assist In the Military Band. Mrs. Linnart. was a student of Harlem Academy of Music, New York, and a pupil of Tiaegcrand Rlchter. She will conduct the woik hi mandolin and guitar. |
