Show if The Election Case. (IK The election ease still drags Its slow Wm length along In the District Court. fifii On Wednesday tho recounting of the votes continued. Smlthfleld District I No. 1, Logan Districts No. 0 and 2, Hyde Park and Wellslllc Districts 1 .' : and 2 were recounted. A strange i feature of these recounts Is that "Far-Ik "Far-Ik roll makes gains In nearly all of them v ' and It looks very much as though m- there was a deep laid plot on the X part of the Judges of election through- BlBBBBBBv - .- , out the county to count him out. The defendants attorneys objected to tho introduction of Wcllsvlllo district No. 1 as evidence on account of tho ballot package bearing strong evidence evi-dence of having been tampered with, but Judge Hart overruled the objection objec-tion and the recount was made. The result at Smlthllcld was a surprise to Allen's friends as It has been claimed all along that Allen had lost twenty-six twenty-six votes In the town that should have been counted for him. In the recount however, the votes did not materialize; on tho other hand Anderson made a gain of several votes In tho two precincts. pre-cincts. Wednesday afternoon plaintiffs plain-tiffs tried to have the ballots of Paradise Para-dise recounted but could not produce any evidence to show that any Illegal voting had been done there and the Judge refused to go Into the ballot packages. Most of the time today was taken up In sparing over the ballots to which exceptions had been taken in the recount on account of faulty marking. The judge expressed the opinion that where two or more lines were made in making tho cross that tho ballot should be counted. As to tho other marks he wanted time to look more fully Into tho matter before expressing an opinion. This pract-lally pract-lally disposes of nine out of ten of tho ballots to which exceptions were taken. tak-en. Those remaining to be disposed of practically balance each other so that they will not effect the question cither way unless It can be proven that there were other discrepancies by Illegal voting, errors by Judges etc. It Is difficult to say now what the result re-sult will be but It looks as though the bottom had dropped out of Allen's side of the case and Farrell's chances arc very much weakened by the fact that ho has been custodian of the ballots and should the recount show any material gains for hhn over Larscn thcro will be a strong suspicion whether Justifiable, or not, that some doctoring has been done since the Judges certified to the election of Larscn. The proceedings has established the fact that our present election law Is a verylllmsey affair and the legislature should lose no time In improving it. |
