Show Woik on the Southern Pacllc Lucin cut-off is piogiesslng steadily and the track Is now well to the west of Promontory; Prom-ontory; In fact, each end of tho track can be seen from the other with the level. Tho gap Is not now more than fifteen miles and gradually narrowing. The work of dumping In rock and earth In the bad hole of tho Rear river current Is still going on; In fact, Is liable li-able to go on for some tlmo to come, as the hole seems to have no bottom and the track sinks continually. Fred C. Smith, formerly chief dispatcher at Ogden, has been appointed trainmaster trainmas-ter with otllco at the Promontory. Ho has charge of all work trains and movement on tho lake and Odgen sections. A heavy train movement Is now going on over tho completed portions of tho cut-oft and It Is now cxtiemely likely that tho whole line will bo completed this summer. |
