Show A Citizens' Ticket. Ex-Congicssman Sutherland occasionally occa-sionally breaks Into print, and when he docs It Is found that he usually has something to say that is vvoith the while. His latest Is in regard to municipal polities and was brought out In an Interview concerning Salt Lake's pioposcd Citizens ticket. In part, Mr. Sutherland says: "It Is the duty of every citizen to bo a politlcan In the best and higher sense of the word to affiliate himself with a political politi-cal organization and to take a zealous, active part In municipal, county, State and national campaign. Holding this opinion, I am strongly opposed to any mbvc that bcals tho stamp of a so-called citizens or non-partisan ticket in a municipal or any other campaign." "Men who aro elected elect-ed upon a citizens' ticket aie bound to noorganlzatlou. No one is responsible for what they do. If men elected by a political oiganlation do not do right the party can be and Is held lcsponslble. And my experience Is that clticns tickets arc moie apt to be made up of weak men than the regular pai tlsan nominations." Tills Is In stilctaccoid with the expicsslonsof Tiik Rki-uiimcan concerning this matter and while we have always regarded re-garded Mr. Sulheilrnd as a man of great mental strength and political foiesight, his stock lias taken another jump. However, tho argument will easily appeal to the reason of every man who stops to think. |
