Show In an article entitled "Thc Record-ershlp" Record-ershlp" and signed with thc Initials "J. L. 1.," some person makes a most unwarranted attack upon the Republican Repub-lican candidate, Mrs. Rebecca Eames. Just who this J. L. 1). may be Is doubtful of course, but It Is certain that he Is "Just a little Democrat," as tho letters Indicate In fact he is about one of the .smallest of the small fry wo have heard of this season. This fellow goes on to say that Mrs. Kame.s "has no ability in that line, either na-ttttal na-ttttal or acquhed," and that "she was nominated for that position because she needed the salary. They do not claim that she is In any manner llttetl for the responsibility." In writing such stuff, J. L. D. does not stick to facts and lajs himself liable to seveio ciiticlsm, The Republicans do claim that she is lilted for the position. That she has had any gteat experience experi-ence at clerical work Is not claimed at all, but that she is a woman of good s.'nse, careful management, and undoubted un-doubted character Is a fact known to , k - 'I i maftiji ! i ""'I 'My vi IW .lii vMMWwr tho voters of Cacho county, and thc fact that she must fill a $10,000 bond for thc faithful and satisfactory performance per-formance of her dutscs should prove a sulllelcn') guarantee to voters. Did S. W. Hendricks hive any great experience experi-ence along clerical lines before lie became be-came treasurer? Mis. Eames has but the slightest knowledge concerning the recorder's office, but like every other candidate who has not held office, of-fice, she can and will learn to conduct affairs properly. Did Jennie Slater know anything about tho recorder's olllco before she went In there as clerk? Of course she didn't, but a woman of thc undoubted intelligence of Mrs. Eames can and will learn as quickly as did Mrs. Slater. Mrs. Eames Is willing to abide by thc decision of tho voters as to whether she Is worthy of con-lldencc. con-lldencc. She Is a lady in every sense of thc word and as thoroughly qualified quali-fied as any one who has never held tho office. Thc Democrats have cried "Imperialism! Imperialism!" for a long time and now desire to give us an example ex-ample of what Imperialism Is. Why turn anyone out of office at any time if J. L. D.'s position is a true one? Just because such and such persons arc In olllce, that Is hardly sufficient evidence that no one could do thc business as acceptably. Thc Journal makes.!. L. D. say that Mrs. Eames "lias no 'incllmatoin' in that channel.' Just what this "Incllmatoin" may mean will be hard to decipher, but It Is a sure thing that Mrs. Eames has an inclination toward the recorder's office, and every Indication goes to show that thc voters have an Inclination Inclina-tion to put her there. |
