Stei, H of the 13th U. S. Infautiy. Captain I Styer was born In Bucks county, H Pennsjlvanla, wheie he leeched his H early education. He was a member H of tho class of '82 at Fianklln and H Marshall College, Lancaster, Pcnnsl-H Pcnnsl-H vanla, during 1878-0. I Io discontinued H , woik liero and enteied tho U. S. Mill- tary Academy at West Pqlnt In June, H 1880. On giaduating four icars later, H ho was appointed second lieutenant In H tho 21st Infant!', solving In Utah and Warning until 1801. At that tlmo H ho was promoted to Hist lieutenant in H tho 13th Infantry and ordered to the lullan Tenltory. From 1802 to 180(1 JB yiMield a position as Prof, of Military JrSdenco and Tactics In tho Agilcul-H Agilcul-H turul College of Utah. From hcio he H was ordered to Fort Niagara, N. Y., where ho served for two cars. In 1808 he was promoted to Captain and in May of thcjfollowingycar ho went to the Philippines. On returning to the United States In 1002, ho was stationed sta-tioned In San Francisco Harbor, remaining re-maining there until ordeicd to our Institution In-stitution last June. A man of such thoiough training and actual service as Capt. Stycr, we feel sure will bring our Military Department De-partment to a state of perfection before be-fore the close of the present school ear. |
