Show 8HE FONDLED A SNAKE. Little Child Played Peacefully With a Deadly Copperhead. Horror-stricken, Mrs. Edward Al-paugh Al-paugh of Washington, N. J., fainted when sho wont into a neighbor's yard and saw her llttlo daughter, Ruth, G years old, feeding a copperhead snako three feet long. Mrs. Alpaugh took her llttlo daughter daugh-ter with her when sho went to mako a call on Mrs. Richard Valentine, ono of her neighbors. Llttlo Ruth wont Into tho yard to play. After a whllo sho was missed and tho two women went to look for her. Ruth was dually found seated upon tho ground In a patch of sunflowers. In her lap was tho snako with Its body colled and its head standing up close to tho child's face. Sho was handling tho rcptilo, unconscious of danger. Mrs. Alpaugh screamed affrightedly and fainted. Mrs. Valentine, moro composed, ran to tho woodhouso and got a hatchet. Tho snako, which had been quiet bn-foro bn-foro tho commotion, stnrted to got away when Mrs. Valentino approached. Sho plucklly attacked It and chopped off Its head. |
