Show GAS WELL FLOWS 7,000,000 FEET Dr. Fred J. Pack Takes Measurements On Big Well of Utah-Wyoming Consolidated Oil Company. Dr. Fred J. Pack has Just returned from a professional vUlt to tho prop, ertlcs of the Utah-Wyoming Consolidated Consoli-dated Oil Company In the Ulg Horn Hasln, near Byron, Wyoming. He says thnt tho statements which have been put forth In regard to the pressure press-ure nnd cnpaclty of the no. 5 well of the company are In no wise exaggerated, exaggerat-ed, but, on tho contrary, nre too modest." mod-est." Dr. Pack, by the nld of Instruments Instru-ments designed for tho purpose, tested test-ed tho big gas well nnd found thnt tho rock pressure Is 655 pounds, .this test being mado after the woll had 1 been uncapped nnd nllowed to flow i until tho accumulated pressure had all been blown off. Tho capacity was i measured ns more than 7,000,000 cubic ' a year ngo, this well was estimated nt , nbout 4,000.000 cubic feet, nnd nfter fittings hnd been secured nnd the i pressure had been controlled, the vell I was found to hnvo Incrcnsed to more ) than 3,000,000 cubic feet, and hnd : blown off Ub harness. Later It was , ngnln brought under control, but the I capacity hnd Incrensed to such nn ex , r -f- ent thnt the fJeJxUBUl':rJItendent eB" tlmatcd C,000,000 cubic feet. The No. C well of the company, which Is being (frilled nt this time, Is down about 1,200 feet. Drilling opera-tltris opera-tltris have been retarded on account cf ft delay In tho arrival of a new drilling drill-ing cable, but this hns been received now and active work Is In progress. The No. C well Is tho one In which n flow of extremely high grade oil was encouraged a short time ngo In n snnd bed, which occurs In tho shade horizons which nre being drilled through In order to' get to the sandstones sand-stones below. Dr. Pack was In Uic field when the cablo arrived and went over to tho No. i well when drilling started. Ilefore starting up, It wna necessary to ball out oil from tho well and between eight nnd ten barrels were bnlled out before drilling could begin. The hole wns not dry at that time, the last boiler coming up nbout two-thirds full. Dr. Pack says there Is a great deal more oil In this holo than ho had supposed, nnd It Is tho lighting oil yet found in the field nnd Is of n higher gravity than tho ordinary ordin-ary keroseno which Is sold on the open market. This oil has a gravity of 44 degrees llnnine when coming from the well nnd tho merchantable keroseno has n gravity of nbout 12. An Interesting fenture brought out In connection with high pressures wns recently developed In the field. A smnll pipe conveys gas from the No. r to the No. C well nnd It wns discovered discov-ered thnt tho flow seemed to bo diminishing. di-minishing. .Investigation showed that In tho casing of tho big gas woll, on account of tho great reduction In temperature tem-perature duo to tho expansion of the gas, n cake of Ice had been formed which completely blocked the pipe. One of the men took an eight-foot length of 2-Inch pipe nnd started to Jam tho Ice out so ns to open the passage pass-age way holding It loose In his hands. After n short while the Ice broke nwny and before ho could gather his senses he saw tho pipe with n block of Ice fully as long, descending nt n height of nbout 300 feet. The 'expansion of the gas In tho casing was permitted by n small openlrig nbout the size of n pin. , |
