Phclan, chairman of the Olllclal Committee for the Reception of the Fleet, have sent the editor of this semi weakly-rellglous a specially engraved personal Invitation "to attend the festivities in honor of the ofllccrs and men of the American fleet which wll 1 assemble In the bay of San Francisco on arrival during the month of May," Feeling certain that Admiral Evans and the other distinguished dis-tinguished officers of the fleet, as well as the officials of San Francisco, would note our absence ab-sence from the festivities and feel agrleved thereat, the editor, in response to the request for a reply has Just wired his Intention to be present. This fact is mentioned only for the purpose of preparing the readers of The Re-ruiiLioAN Re-ruiiLioAN for the mlsfortuno that Is theirs in our absence. However, there should be some consolation in tho unseftlsh consideration that that what Is one's loss Is another's gain, and we sincerely hope that our readers will not tlnd their grief greater than they can bear.
