" At sunrise the Stars and Stripes were unfurled to the breeze, no-uoiiipaiiied no-uoiiipaiiied by sweet strnins of music by the militnry band. Ait 10 o'clock people began to assemble on ithe public square, where a procession was soon formed and marched to the residence resi-dence of the queen and. escorted her majesty to the public square where the following interesting program wns listened to: Music by bnnd. Trnyer, Patriarch Robert Baxter. Bax-ter. Singing, "Utah, the Queen of the West," Sunday School. An Address of Welcome, Supt. Prank Wyatt. Vocal solo, Ailex. li. Maughan. Recitation, Mrs. Maggie B. Smurthwaite. Speech and crowning of the Queen by Prince Consort, Archie Dnrlej . Speech, by Queen of May, Alta Owen. Dancing; around the May Tree, by Queen and Maids of Honor. Speech, Bishop E. 11. Owen. Benediction, Chas. R. Bailey. Music by band. In the afternoon at 1:110 a children's dance was given by the Sunday school in the Pavilion, where the little folks enjoyed themselves to the fullest extent. At 3 o'clock a game of baseball was played between the AVclls-ville AVclls-ville and Ilyde Park teams, which resulted in a'victory for the home team. The score being 5 to 1. After Af-ter the gnme various other sports were participated in, such ns foot racing, a wrestling mntch, n boxing contest and n basket ball game between the. Hyde Park mid Wellsville teams. This game, however resulted in a score of 0 to 1, in favor of the visitors. The day closed with a dance in the evening where the lnrge crowd there gathered and had a pleasant time. Last Friday afternoon mi exceedingly ex-ceedingly interesting game of Baseball was played here between the Washakie Indians and the Wellsville team. At the end of the seventh innings the game came to an end on account of downpour of rain. The score then stood 9 to 4 in favor of Wellsville. M'rs. Troope returned to Lewis-ton Lewis-ton after spending ten days, visiting visit-ing among friends in Wellsville. Tho District schools of Wells ville will close May 29th. The teachers are arranging for the commencement exercises to be held on that date. The Eighth grade, students go- to Logan on Monday to take the final examin'n tioii. The teachers of the AVellsville schools me also making preparations prepara-tions for an Alumni banquet to be given June 1st in the Wellsville pavilion, at which all former graduates and teachers will bo en-. en-. tertained. Mrs. F. C. Bramwell of La Grande, Ore., is visiting relatives in our city. N. Q. Allan mid son Lamont. Pnrley Murray nnd Orson Parker Par-ker returned Monday morning from California where they went to see the fleet. Miss Lydia Owen came up from Ogden last Friday, to be at the bedside of her mother, who is suffering suf-fering greatly from a .severe attack at-tack of pleurisy. Mrs. Dr. W. B. Parkinson and family returned to Li gan on Tues day. after a pleasant visit in our city. She was the guest of her sister Mrs. E. R. Owen. |
