Show ORGANIZATION OF TAFT CAMPAIGN Every day sees tho plans of the republican re-publican party taking moro definite shape for a vigorous and victorious campaign for Taft. Hitchcock has been elected chairman of the national committee, a choice which is satisfactory satisfac-tory to tlia republican party everywhere, every-where, except possibly in Ohio, and there Mr. Taft's powcrsof conciliation will smooth over all dissatisfaction. The first part of the week In Colorado City, Mr. Hitchcock met the republican republi-can leaders and members of the national nation-al committee west of the Mississippi In order to formulate plans for the western campaign. Meanwhile Mr. Taft at Hot Springs, Va., Is finishing his speech of acceptance which he will present to the notification committee next week. One of the most encourg-ing encourg-ing statements of the managers is that of Mr. Sheldon, the national treasurer, who announced recently that since his arrival at Hot Springs he .had received a dozen checks from people who wished to make tho first contribution and that every dollar received and disbursed by the republican national committee during the campaign would be accounted ac-counted for to the public. As Mr. Sheldon will have his headquarters at New York City he will be obliged to comply with New York statute requiring requir-ing the publicity of campaign contributions contri-butions and so we are doubly sure he will carry out his Intentions. Thus with a director like Mr. Hitchcock, who has become a master of the political poli-tical field and has the party organization organiza-tion at his linger ends, and with a treasurer like Mr. Sheldon, standing emphatically for publicity of funds contributed, the republican party Is well launched in Its campaign under competent managers. |
