Show The Beet Crop . Judge n. H. Rolapp, of the Amalgamated Amal-gamated Sugar company, and Supt. Oostello, of the Oregon Short 'Line, were In Cache valley this week, where they Inspected the beet crop, transportation facilities and arranged for a better service' for the sugar campaign cam-paign of 1907-03. It Is the opinion of Mr. Costello that the .crop will be handled without any damaging delay. Owing to the scarcity of cars last year, the sugar company sustained a lots of hundreds of tons of beets, but, If possible, better freight facilities will be provided by the railroad company this season. , Farmers In the beet sections of the valley wero communicated with relative rela-tive to the transportation of their crops to the sugar factories, and It Is 1 t ' - believed by Judge Rolapp that the company' will be able to. move the beets as fast as they are taken 'from the ground. The w loading stations will be Increased In 'number and Improved Im-proved throughout to enable growers to load on a aiding without being compelled com-pelled to wait several days for their removal. The Increased facilities are expected to shorten the campaign, although It will last through February, Feb-ruary, owing to the size of the crop, which Is the largest ever grown in this valley. The beet crop in this valley Is the largest ever raised. It Is estimated at 140,000 tons, a figure which officials of the Amalgamated company consider con-sider conservative and lower than the flourishing condition of the crop warrants. war-rants. However, to move 140,000 tons will require on an average of 86 cars per day or a total of 0,000 cars for the entire en-tire sugar campaign, a period of about -seventy days., Add tothis the" crop of Weber county and the total num- berbf cars that will be required to mora the 'beets contracted by the local company Is placed at 10,000. It is for the purpose of arriving at some satisfactory .conclusion relative to the traneporatlon of the crops that Mr. Bolapp and Supt. Costello were In Logan. " ' |
