Show Curios From College Ward Artesian Wells Throw up Beads, Bones, Chips, etc., from Depth of 110 Feet Mr. and Mrs. A. Kollcr, of College ward, were In Logan Saturday and while at The Republican oillce showed some curios of rather exceptional Interest In-terest Thesis consist of one-half a tooth split lengthwise, a small bone, a blue bead the size of a gooseberry and a small piece of red rock or earthenware earthen-ware very highly polished on two sides. These little trinkets within themselves are not wonderfully startling start-ling but when It Is stated that they came from a 110 foot Well they became rather interesting. Two years ago, Mr.Koller had a well driven to the depth mentioned, and cased all tho way down with a two Inch pipe. A great flow of water was obtained, a stream spouting up a considerable distance dis-tance above the pipe. For days gravel and dirt was thrown out with the water, and about two weeks after the completion of the well, while the children with sacks made of mosquito-' bar were catching the gravel and sand they found these little tricks mentioned men-tioned above. Mr. Kollcr was Interested Inter-ested and lias saved them until this time. The Significance. of the find Is conjectural of course. That they came from 110 feet below the present surface of the valley oilers considerable room for speculation. The bead is one of the Indian variety, Its color Is perfect, and In the eyelet Is an accumulation that has evidently petritled. The tooth appears to be that of some animal rather than human, hu-man, and the bone Is from some a.il- mal or foul larger than an oidlnary bird. The rock or earthenware Is only on-ly such as many recks that might bo picked up along Logan river, except that the oollsh in two places Is extraordinary. extra-ordinary. It Is suggested that these must have come from some old Indian burial ground, or perchance have some connection with a prehistoric race. Other Things Found. The story Is related to us thai Mr. Ncphl Blndrup, who lives near the Kollcrs, Is also In possession of a curio from the depths of the earth. As his well was being driven and had reached the depth of soventy-tlve feet there came up a tooth that In size was practically all his Inch-and-a-half pipe would deliver. It Is not known from what kind of an animal this might have come from, as it Is of extraordinary extraordi-nary size. It is also related that a well of Sam Dowdlc.of the same vicinity, delivered chips from a depth of sevcnty-llvn feet, chips from an old block. Just like any other chips. Possibilities of the Case. It Is the belief generally that th3 surface of the valley was at a much lower level at some time In the distant dis-tant past. It is deemed entirely possible possi-ble that this le.'el was fully 110 feet or moro below that of todayjthat tho valley val-ley was tilled up Just as the bench land around the valley was formed; yet It Is puzzling as to how Indian trinkets could find their way 110 feet below the surface. Mr. Kollcr and the other gentlemen prize their relics highly. |
