Show APPORTIONMENT OF SCHOOL FUNDS Show Falling off in Logan Lo-gan Population. But Discrepancy is Explained Ex-plained by facts. The apportionment of county school funds was made by County Superintendent Superin-tendent McCarrey on Wednesday. The apportionment is based on $1.70 for each child enumerated, the total amounting to $12,0,"l,2l A Dad Showing. A peculiar and unsatisfactory state of allulrs seems to be revealed by the llgurcs given, as the county is credited with 14 less in school population and Logan Is given as 10 less than that of last year. Supt. McCarrey was surprised sur-prised at this showing and naturally the public will be, for It has been generally gen-erally considered that Logan's population popula-tion has been on the Increase rather than decrease. The Cause of It. Tiik HicruiiucAN, however, sought a solution of this peculiar showing and found It In the statement of City Supt. A. F. Canton. He says that in truth Logan has a much larger school population tills year than last, but in somo manner not wholly explainable ex-plainable the enumerators failed to record the entire number of children of school age. Supt. Cardon Is certain that tlfty names that should be AS i '!b on the books were missed. This -jy discrepancy is particularly noticeable In the Third ward. Regardless of the extreme care that Is taken, It no possible to secure all the names and this year tlioro proved a regrettable shortage. It will bo remembered that the school census Is usually taken in July. In many Instances parents are out of the city, here, there and elsewhere else-where and It is impossible for the enumerator to make a correct list, .lust how the extraordinary dilllculty this year came about is not wholly apparent, yet we may accept Mr. Car-don's Car-don's assurance that our school ' population has In reality gone up considerably con-siderably Instead of decreasing. Another Feature. It may be Interesting to the public to know that the number given below does not represent the total number of children taking advantage of our city school system. There are a goodly good-ly number of children who pay tuition and these arc not Included below. Theso arc children of parents who own no property and pay no taxes. Then there aro those chldren of parents who pay taxes elsewhere but come to Logan to send their children to school. These arc quite a number and aie not included In the list. The whole school population would show a considerably larger total than that below. - J Tho report of Supt.
