The earth opened up for three-quarters three-quarters of a mile in length, and millions of tons uf earth slid off the top of Turth moutain which overhangs the little town. The coal pit mouth and several buildings build-ings near thereto were buried. I At 4 o'clock this afternoon the following conservative estimate of the loss of life was made: Men, women and children ' killed in their beds as they slept, 82.
