Show THE TELEPHONE FRANCHISE. We see no reason why the telephone tele-phone franchise applied for by the Utah company should not be granted by the Logan city council. coun-cil. It is true, as argued by the opposition, that two telephone companies in a town create. con-, fusion through parties being on different lines tut that is the concern of the users. Under-present Under-present industrial conditions,, competition is a necessity. Where & monopoly exists,, high rates and poor service is the .rule. This is not necessarily true of the Bell company. Its officers doubtless believe they are doing ervhjrj4iosi32 for the public. A competing! company, however, would tend to lower rates between distant points, and each company would be placed upon its mettle to give the public the very best service at the lowest possible rates. It is wrong for a community to be ' placed at the mercy of any organization. or-ganization. This has been proven tvue in numberless instances, and was never more plainly apparent ap-parent than is the case in Logan today. Every well ordered community should haye competition : in all business departments; under these conditions , prices adjust themselves to a reasonable plane, and service is much better, |
