Show WEATHER RESPONSIBLE. Fatal Accident in Wyoming, Due to Blinding Snowstorm. Two freight trains on the Union Pacific Pa-cific met head-on one-quarter of a mile west of Harper's station shortly after 4 o'clock Sunday morning, causing the death of Fireman Scalill of Cheyenne, the fatal injury of Br'akeman H. S. Weick of Laramie, and the serious in-Jury in-Jury of Engineer J. D. Rinder of Cheyenne. Chey-enne. Two : locomotives and several cars were badly damaged, and traffic delayed for eight hours. Owing to a blinding snowstorm, the engineer of the westbound train did not see the signal for orders at Harper's, Har-per's, and when the operator discovered discov-ered that the train was passing he lit a fuse on the track, which attracted the attention of the conductor, who immediately opened the air valve and set the brakes. This action alone prevented pre-vented a much more disastrous wreck, for the westbound train had been brought almost to a standstill when, the collision occurred. |
