Show The Newton Daxn Safe INewton, Mar. 23d, 1903. In the last Deserefc News - there was a note stating that the reservoir dam was broken, but I am glad to state that that is a. mistake. On Friday night, March 13th, at 10, came the first call for help. A few of the boys responded. They went up and cleaned the snow out of the waste ditch. 'ahd the work has been golngici, night and day since then. Supt. Calvin came- up last Monday and looked at it and said it could be saved. The O. S. L. R. R. Co. repaired repair-ed the Hume in the little dam. The people filled 600 sacks with gravel, and with the aid of the Japs pat them in the washout to strengthen the dam. The East side of the waste ditch is rip-rapped with about 10 loads of trees and 100 leads of cobble roaks. The water in the j pond is lowering, so the danger I is over, and we will save the ! water. There is plenty of mud here now. but it is to be hoped that it will be dry in a few days. |
