Show Objects to Big Reserves Washington, March 20. Senator Sena-tor Smoot has entered his protest pro-test at the Interior department against what is known as blanket forest reserves in Utah. He makes the following statement: "I favor establishment of Logan Lo-gan and Manti reserves in Utah. I Also such parts of other reserves jas are necessary to protect the 'water supply for cities and , towns, but this is as far as 1 'want it to go. If the entire 5,- 000.000 acres wunu.-a.wu jvjv-u.m be created into reserves we might as well give up sheep and cattle business in Utah. "As a result of my protest to the Interior department, I have assurances that noching further will be done toward creating reserves re-serves until Senator Kearns and I return to Utah. ' We will try hard to get cattlemen, sheepmen and farmers to agree m each district on sections which should be included in reserves, and 1 think the department will include just about what may be thus ao-reed on. .... I "A great deal of land witn-I witn-I drawn is utterly devoid of timber and is grazirgjand solely. |
