Show V. 8. Consul Prevent Attack on Colon by Colombian Rebels. Official advices received by the state department from the United States consul at Colon say that on the 3d instant he received from the insurgent insur-gent commander a letter announcing a contemplated attack on Colon. The letter was sent immediately to the commander com-mander of the United States steamship Machias. The consul informed the insurgent commander bv letter that any interference with the free transit of the isthmus would be a yiolation of treaty rights of the United States, and that this government would act accordingly. ac-cordingly. Subsequently, upon the arrival ar-rival of a small force of Colombian troops, the insurgent forces decamped. |
