Show School Board adopts record budget In its annual budget hearing the Iron County School Board adopted a record budget of $7,571,740. This budget is significantly higher than previous years due to the anticipated an-ticipated sale of bonds for the new Cedar Junior High School for $3,500,000. When itemized, the new budget can be compared with the 1973-74 budget as follows with 73-74 figures in brackets : Maintenance and operation fund, $2,764,866 ($2,571,785); Capital outlay and debt service, $4,367,056 ($590,025); School food services, $199,306 ($207,021); tort liability fund, $7,637 ($3,383); recreation fund, $39,851 ($42,637); Southwest Educational Development Center $193,024 ($133,500). Additional state revenue and the elimination of several local salaried positions have made it possible to have a balanced budget, provide an eight percent salary increase, meet inflationary in-flationary costs in non salary categories, and at the same time liquidate deficits in maintenance and operation, food services, and recreation. The new budget as adopted includes an eight percent increase in-crease for all salaried personnel plus annual increments plus an increased insurance benefit package, all of which have been rejected by the Iron Education Association. The new budget also liquidates a deficit of $34,035 in the maintenance and operation fund. |
