Show SUSC winds up 75 season against Westminster Parsons I ' Honor and prestige is all that will be at Stake Saturday as I Southern Utah State College ends their 1975 season against in- trastate rival, Westminster. Kickoff for the season finale against Westminster is slated for I 1 :30 in the Thunderbird Stadium. ' Both teams had high hopes I earlier this season as they started out with 2-0 records. Both now have 3-5 records, with 1-5 I Rocky Mountain Athletic Con- II ference records. a The T-Birds' and Parsons' victories in the RMAC have come ! over winless Mesa, jj Last week SUSC lost 37-0 to ; Adams State, while Westminster lost to Western State, 33-6. Westminster will come out "; throwing the football. The i Parsons have outstanding ' receiving in all-American Craig Caldwell, number one in the NAIA last year, and number nine this year. Also another sure-handed sure-handed receiver is Mike Silva. Silva comes from Glendale, California J.C. where their thrower Sid Stark hails. He has hit on 55 percent of his passes so far this season. On defense the Parsons are led by Jerry Gold, a linebacker; and defensive back Steve Sharp, who has five interceptions. Their defense has thirteen interceptions in-terceptions on the season. This will pose a problem for the T-Bird T-Bird quarterbacks, who like to put the ball in the air. "Adams State just beat us up," said Coach Tom Kingsford after Saturday's loss to Adams State. The ground game was held to a mere six yards. In the air SUSC could only manage 96 yards against the awesome Indian defense. On defense for the T-Birds, Scott Stapley led the way with 31 tackles, a fumble recovery, and a pass interception. Dave Cullimore added 20 tackles. ASC's offense grounded out 418 yards while getting 92 in the air for a total of 510 yards. Sixteen seniors will be playing their last game for the T-Birds. They are: Jerry Dyer (QB), Dave Christiansen (SE), Brian Dawson (RB), Gary Ashton (RB), Jim Johnson (LB), Jay Broadbent (OG), Scott Priegel (OG), Scott Stapley (DE-LB), Tyrone Crosby (BT), Doug Bluth (OF-OG), Scott Doubeck (OT), Dave Cullimore (DT), Mike Kernodle (OT-OG-DNG), Russ Jones (DE), Ed Kristensen (TE), and Clark Kincaid (OC). |
