Show Public Meeting called by City Council ' A public hearing to consider Cedar City moving from a Justice of the Peace to a City Courts judicial system, has been set by Cedar City Council. Mayor Kerry Jones announced following council meeting Thursday evening, that a hearing would be held on Friday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m. in the City Building. Public input as to their preference of systems is being asked by officers of the City. The adoption of a City Court System would require the discontinuance of the Justice of the Peace for Cedar City. The JP would be replaced by a judge with a degree in law. Action requesting such a move has been made by the Cedar City Junior Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Jones said, and others have expressed interest in the system. The adoption of the City Court System with a qualified lawyer as judge would provide opportunity op-portunity for a number of additional ad-ditional cases to be tried at the "City Court" level, without being moved to District Court. There are many pros and cons that must be considered and the Council would like to have the opinions of residents at the hearing. All interested persons are invited to attend and enter testimony concerned the proposal to change the judicial system. |
