Show State Forester proclaims state fire ban A proclamation has been issued is-sued by Paul L. Sjoblom, state Forester banning open burning throughout the state of Utah, according to Tony Dietz, southwest south-west area forester. The open burning ban, according ac-cording to the proclamation is between the period of June 1 through October 31. During that period of time "it shall be unlawful un-lawful for any person to willfully will-fully or negligently set on fire or cause to be set on fire any trees, shrubs, brush, grass, undergrowth, un-dergrowth, cultivated crops or other property on any land, state or private, without a written writ-ten burning permit," the proclamation pro-clamation states. Burning permits in this area can be obtained through forester forest-er Dietz, call 586-4408 or through District Fire Warden Jack Snow, 586-8411; Ira Schoppmann, Iron County Sheriff, Sher-iff, or Dave Bentleyet-the Cedar Ced-ar City Fire Department, 586-4042. 586-4042. The proclamation points out the vital role played by the forest for-est and watershed in the state's economy and the vulnerability to damage by wildfire. It was pointed out that during dur-ing the closed fire season citations cita-tions can and will be issued where violations occur. |
