Show Development Opposition heard by Commission Summit residents packed the county commission chambers last Wed. opposing the development of the 3200 subdivison proposed for Summit mountain. Developer Martin Collins from Las Vegas appeared with his attorney Robert Braithwaite before the commission to find out what his next step should be.' The Iron County Planning Commission had refused to accept his preliminary plat at their last meeting. The subdivision is planned lor an area near the other controversial and proposed development, Summit Pines. The county adopted a new subdivision sub-division ordinance last year and commissioners said that they would review the law with the proposed subdivision in mind. "We should include in the ordinance a zoning change requirement before the preliminary plat because that would require a public hearing. ..the people in Summit think that they have a real problem," said Commissioner James Clark. Summit residents have opposed the development saying that they might distrub their water and flood control rights. . A state geologist will investigate in-vestigate the potential problems caused by such a development at the proposed site this week. County Attorney James Shumate said that the county might need to define what a mountain subdivision is and decide whether the subdivision ordinance should include this type of '"'subdivision. Commissioners said that the area involved is not "adjacent to an incorporated in-corporated area," a condition which county law presently requires. This provision was hoped to protect the county from the expenses involved in providing such services as snow removal and road maintenance in remote areas. The commission referred the developer back to the Planning Commission. |
